You've got this great design idea for a phone case, t-shirt, wall sticker - whatever! It's one thing to design one of these products but it's a totally different thing to create one that people will love and show off. But here's the thing:
Everything - t-shirts, phone cases, coffee mugs - has an intended audience, whether you realize it or not.
If you don't already know who would want to buy your designed FanMade products, it's crucial that you find-or create-that audience. Whether you're an artist with the goal of self promotion or an entrepreneur hoping to establish your own brand, the first step to launching a successful campaign on FanMade begins with identifying and clarifying a niche of individuals within an audience who will be interested in your unique designs.
So what makes an audience?
An audience is a group of people who share an interest. They're everywhere and may include people you wouldn't necessarily think would associate together.
Here are some examples:
- Runners in a famous city's marathon
- People who think the 'Tuck Rule' is a joke
- Motorcycle Enthusiasts
- People who aspire to fly kites professionally
Tip: Grab a piece of paper (or open a note app on your favorite device) and list four audiences that you want to create a design for. Try to come up with one for each of these two categories: something you're passionate about, something everyone seems to be talking about.
